Access to clean and safe water is among the challenging is in Somalia, owing to a mix of variables such as dry environment, chemical content of water sources, and human-induced war. Furthermore, current water sources are deficient in terms of accessibility, quality, and quantity. The high concentration of chemical components and salinity in groundwater renders it unsuitable for human consumption, even when surface water is present.
Somalia has seen decades of continuous violence and disasters, resulting in the loss of critical institutions and data. As a result, enforceable standards for sustainable water management cannot be fully implemented, further exacerbating groundwater depletion, pollution, and conflict.
