On April 20, 2025, Community Care Somalia (CCS) conducted a Rapid Needs Assessment targeting families displaced from areas within Afgooye District, particularly Sabida and Awdhegle. The assessment aimed to evaluate the immediate humanitarian needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and to inform timely response interventions.
Field Visit to IDP Camps
As part of the assessment process, the CCS team carried out a field visit to IDP camps located in Afgooye, with specific attention given to the conditions in Gosha and Gendiga camps. The visit enabled the team to directly observe the living conditions of displaced households and gather firsthand information regarding urgent needs.
The assessment focused on identifying critical gaps in essential services, including:
- Access to food and nutrition
- Availability of clean water and sanitation facilities
- Shelter conditions
- Access to healthcare services
- Protection concerns affecting vulnerable groups
The findings highlighted the pressing humanitarian challenges faced by families who have recently fled insecurity and instability in their areas of origin.
Coordination and Appreciation
Community Care Somalia (CCS) extends its sincere appreciation to OCHA for leading and guiding the assessment process. OCHAโs coordination and technical support were instrumental in ensuring a structured and comprehensive evaluation of the urgent needs of displaced populations from Awdhegle, Sabida, and surrounding areas.
Moving Forward
The Rapid Needs Assessment represents a critical step toward mobilizing coordinated humanitarian assistance. CCS remains committed to working alongside partners and stakeholders to support affected communities and to contribute to timely, effective, and sustainable responses to displacement-related challenges in the Lower Shabelle Region.
